Leisure Birds “Burn the Beach”

Got another beachy vibe for ya. As I’ve stated before I’m a huge fan of surf rock jammers. This is up there with some of my favorite. It’s the only song I have ever heard from the band and I don’t know much about them. I found this song on a sampler/compilation mixtape back in the mid 2000’s and it has remained on my playlists ever since. It’s a quick and fast dancy sort of song that makes you feel like running through sand dunes and basking in the sun. Pretty fun groove. I always told myself I would use it as a skate video song if I ever had a part. Hopefully someday that could happen. We’ll see! Unfortunately I was unable to find the song on YouTube. But here is the Spotify link...it's also available on Apple Music. https://open.spotify.com/track/3hBvyfNLlczMIj8DC5uaBc

Benoit Pioulard “A Coin on the Tongue”

I have always loved this song. The happy acoustic guitar and the ambient wind noises. The atmosphere of the song alone is almost just as good as the warm vocals and percussion. " Say hello to the end, and its big fucking, jack-o-lantern grin" I can't help but interpret this song as another avenue of dealing with life's shit. " Blackened nails and acumen,  Lacerated fists full of arrowheads,  Arid bones and hollow men,  Lie down on marrow beds" Putting forth the effort of staying alive and pursuing happiness all for the same inevitable end...death. Might as well enjoy it while we are here right?

The Olympians “Venus”

I heard this song while waiting for the start of an Allah-Lahs show. I was sitting awkwardly by myself at this bar/venue in Kansas City, drinking a beer and admiring the overhead tunes that were being played. I remember diggin the jazzy, no vocal tune and its horn section. So I of course held out my smartphone and Shazamed it. “Venus” by The Olympians. I had never heard of them before, but I enjoyed what I heard. And the rest of their stuff is really good too. Check it out for yourself!

Spoon "The Underdog"

It finally happened. I did what I told myself I wouldn’t do. I gave up. I let laziness, luxury, and life distract me from the commitment I swore to. This blog was intended to be an outlet; a way to simply talk about one of my favorite things in life... music. But I got discouraged and I got lazy. After around  70 posts I have in. And I have felt terrible since. So I’m going to try this again. I’m going to do whatever it takes to stick with it and continue to do what I love. And to those who have kept up with the blog I sincerely apologize. So here's Spoon with their hit "The Underdog". I'm sure all most of you just witnessed an incredible game by the Philadelphia Eagles, conquering the dynasty of the New England Patriots. Throughout the post-season the Eagles regarded themselves as the "underdogs" and even fashioned dog masks to make their point. And while I'm a Dallas Cowboys fan who should be hating on the division rivals...the game was just too g

The Fugees "Zealots"

I had never heard of The Fugees before until a couple of days ago at work. A co-worker and I were upgrading some mic input plates a big old luxury hotel in Kansas City called the Intercontinental. Dan, my co-worker, likes to bring his Bluetooth speaker and throw on tunes when he can. We were working and just doing our thing when this song popped on that I had never heard before. It was the type of hip-hop that I am a huge sucker for; an old sampled beat that loops and paves the way for whoever is rapping to just let loose and start flowin. The beat sample sounded like a bit from " I Only Have Eyes For You " by The Flamingos, and upon further research...it is! I don't know much about the Fugees. But you should check this song out. I can't stop listening to it.

The Murlocs "Loopholes"

Melbourne, Australia is absolutely killing it in modern psyche-rock music these days. You might have heard of bands like Tame Impala , King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard , and Courtney Barnett . Maybe it's the hot temperatures and the sun...who knows. But whatever it is I hope it stays that way and killer music continues to be made. The Murlocs, as you might have guessed, hail from Melbourne. Their Bandcamp page describes them as " Five skinny kids with roots firmly placed in their own blown-out, distorted brand of soulful RnB." They're trippy, they're funky, and they're pretty psychedelic. Check out "Loopholes".

Iron claw “Clawstrophobia”

I have been wanting to post this song for while. I heard of this band, and song, from a Volcom demo. I remember the demo was just about to start. I was in my way out to grab some beer when I’m y way to y car I hear this grimy, classic rock sounding song. I was really digging it and hopefully puled up Shazam and held my phone up to try and snag the song. I figured I was too far away or the song was too obscure for Shazam to notice. But to my surprise the song and artist popped up. “Clawstrophobia” by Iron Claw. I got in my car and pulled up the song. From there I was hooked. To my surprise, upon researching the band, I found that they have actually been a band since 1969! They just have always flown under the radar. "Clawstrophobia" comes from there self-titled album. When you start listening to the album one this is very clear...the production is terrible. The songs are muddy and just not recorded very well. However, good craftsmanship and exceptional songwriting prevails
