Lee Michaels "Heighty Hi"

Sometimes we hear the best music when we least expect it.

Do you ever do that? Start searching for "new music" because your sick of all the stuff you've been listening to lately? I still find myself sometimes cruising through websites, videos, top album lists, etc. because I feel like I've worn out all of the music I've been frequenting. And it's funny. Because nine times out of ten...I don't normally come up with anything. At least anything that piques my interest enough to delve further into.

About a month-or-two ago I was at Mill's Record Company; this killer record store in the midtown area of Kansas City, MO. I was perusing through the latest used records that had come in and was eventually going to pick up a Comets on Fire record. From the moment I walked in I couldn't help but dig what was being played throughout the store. So I did what any normal millennial with a smart phone would do...act like I was trying to remember certain records I was looking for while actually Shazaming the current song.

Lee Michaels "Who Could Want More" popped up. Immediately saved that shit and continued to look through records. Once I left the record store I eagerly started looking up more music by this dude.

Lee Michaels is a multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter from Los Angeles, CA. He spent time in a couple of older band like The Strangers and the Family Tree. He soon hopped out of those bands and began making music on his own. He would eventually have a top ten major hit called "Do You Know What I Mean".

"Heighty Hi" though... this song right here. I remember driving back home and literally had this song on repeat. If you don't find yourself wanting to dance to this then I'm not sure what song will. I didn't even know what the hell he was saying through most of the song until I wrote this and actually looked the lyrics up. And to be completely honest with you...the only conclusion I can come of what this song is actually is about...is being stoned. None of the lyrics really steer in any sort of cohesive message... and even Mr. Michaels himself admits..."Everybody's stoned, and so am I".
