King Krule "The Noose of Jah City"

King Krule, who started off as Zoo Kid and who's real name is Archy Marshall (which he has also made music by) is s prolific, jazzy, hip hop, rock infused musician from London. I remember hearing about him, and where I believe most people first heard of him, from an absolutely killer song called "Out Getting Ribs"; a guitar and vocal only song with one of the gnarliest and difficult sounding guitar parts. Their are two versions of the song: one as Zoo Kid and the other as King Krule. In both songs you can hear him almost cry out in humorous frustration in the beginning. I can't help but think this is due to just how tough the guitar part is. The song felt like a direct pathway to this young musician's troubled soul. He was literally pouring his heart out with music and feelings and lyrics all coming from him and only him.

His music normally takes on a similar fashion as "Out Getting Ribs", in a bluesy, emotional wash. However, unlike "Ribs", there are many songs that are accompanied by hip hop beats or jazz melodies. "The Noose of Jah City" is a great example of the hip hop influence present in his music. The beat is contained and paves the way for him to lay down his exceptional lyrics of being constrained and bound to a city "of concrete".

"The body found and my soul was left to drown, Suffocated in concrete, It took a hold of me, Put me repeat".

King Krule, Zoo Kid, Archy Marshall... you are one talented and intelligent dude. Thank you for the music.
